“Nothing yet or no news to report” commented the many observers. But then on a particular day all had changed. First there was one and then there was two. By the end of the second day, nine delightful baby chicks had arrived. The children’s approval was unanimous – it was all worth the wait!

 Nenagh Guardian Sports Awards

Bringing a smile to the many faces is in itself a great source of achievement.  This was powerfully demonstrated last May when the U11 and U13 boys and girls of Ardcroney N S won 4 Cumann na mBunscol County Titles in Semple Stadium.  Their victories led by captains Ray Quinlivan, Aoife Ryan, Daniel Cahalan and Emma Williams were once again recalled at the Nenagh Guardian Sports Awards.

The teams coach and mentor Martin Ryan (Principal) went onto say at the presentation of the award “it was a privilege. It’s a labour of love for us. It’s nothing better to see young hurlers and young girls develop into club players, county senior hurlers and county senior camogie players. It doesn’t just happen. The school does not do it. It happens at home. Parents take them to training.  We have the backing of Kilraune McDonaghs. We have Paddy Williams, our hurling coach. We have Len Gaynor who trains on a Wednesday night in Ardcroney pitch.  So they have to win. We are just encouraging them. It takes a combination of a lot of different things to get it together. It’s the children that won the County finals. It’s a privilege to have trained them, coached them. I have no doubt those children will be here accepting adult awards in years to come”.

Lets now hope that the pupils of Ardcroney N S continue to bring joy, happiness and even more smiles to themselves, their families and the wider community in 2019.

 The Airport Experience

Junior Infants Aistear theme for January was the Airport.  We learnt all about the weather the different countries are experiencing and selected clothes to wear. We then packed our bags for our trip and headed off to the airport to board our flights to America, Spain and France. When we arrived at the airport our passports had to be checked at the check in desk. We collected our tickets and checked in our luggage before heading through security and boarding our flights. The flight attendant helped us to our seats before take off!

We built airports with blocks and lego and we even made our own personal passports . We had so much FUN!!!

Day of Celebration in Ardcroney NS

On Tuesday 19th June parents and invited guests attended a very unique day of celebration for the people of Ardcroney.  In his welcoming address to all, the principal Martin Ryan praised the achievements of the 4 Ardcroney N S teams who have brought such pride and honour to themselves, their families and their school.  Mr Ryan praised the achievements of his fellow trainer Paddy Williams.  Winning the County titles a week earlier at Semple Stadium, Thurles were U13’s camogie, U13’s Hurlers, U11’s camogie and U11’s hurlers.

Among the invited guests were past pupils Niall O Meara (Tipperary Senior Hurler), Cian O Kelly (Tipperary Minor), and Roisin Cahill and Laura Shinners (Tipperary Camogie Panel). Now himself a primary teacher in Newport, Niall attributes his love of hurling to his time spent in Ardcroney N S under the guidance of Martin Ryan. Mr Jim Whelan spoke glowingly about of the great achievement of this group of children.  Len Gaynor acknowledged not just the teams but also the great stewardship of the mentor – Martin Ryan. “Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí”.  Jason Forde praised the success of the Ardcroney N S boys and girls.

A great sense of joy, delight and expectation filled the atmosphere as the teams were presented with their County medals. The team captains introduced each member of the panel.  Jason Forde along with the four former pupils did the presentations. John Mulcahy expressed appreciation on behalf of the parents. A presentation was then made to Martin by Colette Hayes and Eileen Sullivan A very enjoyable afternoon came to an end.

We are very grateful to Stephen Gleeson from Tipp FM who conducted interviews on the day. The broadcast time which we will update you on twitter. Much appreciation also to Shane Brophy.

 Devil’s Bit Excursion

The 5th and 6th class pupils had lovely weather for their excursion to the Devils Bit on Monday 18th June. Packed lunches and drinks were all that was needed for a very enjoyable picnic. The picturesque mountain top out of which legend has it, the devil took a bite looked truly magnificent. On a clear day, one can see up to five counties. Over head clouds did not quite allow that to happen. Though the walk was energy demanding the children’s enthusiasm and sense of adventure was undiminished. For our wonderful 6th class pupils this was of course their final excursion in the Ardcroney N S tracksuit!

Four County Final Wins for Ardcroney National School added 15.06.2018

Cumann na mBunscoil County Finals.

The field of dreams Semple Stadium Thurles saw dreams come to reality as 4 Ardcroney N S teams battled to victory over the past 2 days to win nothing less but 4 Cumann na mBunscoil County Final titles.

Tuesday 12th June 2018

U11 Camogie Roinn D

Ardcroney N S 7-2    Knockavilla N S 2-1

First on the field  was our U11 Camogie team (Roinn D) who played Knockavilla N S. Our girls got off to a flying start by scoring two early goals. They fought hard throughout showing great determination to the end.  Knockavilla N S put pressure on them in the second half but the girls work rate saw them coming out on top. Aoife Ryan captained the team.

U13 Hurling Roinn D

Ardcroney N S 5-7      Upperchurch 3-11.

Next out onto the field was our U13 Hurlers captained by Daniel Cahalan. This was a hard fought match for all involved. The boys showed great strength and teamwork throughout the game. Upperchurch N S fought equally as hard and spectators were at the edge of their seats waiting to see who would be victorious. A margin of just a point seperated the teams with just 5 minutes to go but the determination of the Ardcroney N S boys saw them get on top and secure their victory.

Wednesday 13th June 2018

U13 Camogie Roinn B

Ardcroney N S 2-5, Ballylooby N S 1-3

The second day of the Cumann na mBunscoil County Final saw our U13 girls grace the hallowed turf of Semple stadium. Captained by Emma Williams, expectations were high though we knew that a valiant effort was needed if we were to build on success of the previous day. This proved to be another tight encounter. Skill, determination and team work powered the Ardcroney N S girls into a lead which Ballylooby N S were unable to bridge despite their best efforts. Five points separated the sides at the final whistle.

U11 Hurling Roinn D

Ardcroney N S 7-2    Lisnamrock  N S 2-5

Finally, our U11 boys topped off our winning streak in a very exciting game. They showed great leadership and team work from start to finish. Great credit was due to both goalies for pulling off some top class saves. The crowd really got behind the boys as they got stuck in and provided us with great entertainment. Captain Ray Quinlivan accepted the cup on behalf of his team mates topping off a fantastic two days in Semple stadium!!

Four County titles in two days. One County title is good, 2 is better, 3 is brilliant but 4 is absolutely fantastic !!!!

Huge congratulations to all the boys and girls.  A big thank you to the parents and families who have been magnificent supporters. Success is only possible when great talent and mentoring go hand in hand. A huge word of thank to the teams mentors Mr Ryan and Paddy Williams.

Collins Barracks

On Wednesday the 18th April 3rd, 4th,5th and 6th class went on their school tour. We all left the school in two buses at 8am. Everyone was really excited on the bus and couldn’t wait to arrive in Dublin. When we arrived in Dublin, we first went to Collins Barracks which is part of the National History Museum. We waited in the huge courtyard for the tour guides to get ready. The 6th class tour guide was Lisa. She brought us around the back of the building into the 1916 area. There were lots of interesting artefacts when we entered. We were first shown a printed copy of the Proclamation. Lots of copies were printed during Easter 1916. There were metal letter blocks which were used  in a printing press to print the copies. There were guns on display which were used in the fighting. A certain gun had a muzzle bent from another soilders bullet. There were uniforms and important supplies on show as well. Some important letters written to inform people of surrender or retreat were behind glass. These letters  were written by Eoin Mac Neill and Padraig Pearse. Flags that were flown during the Rising were also under cases. They were very old and worn. Personal belongings which were important to the Seven Rising Leaders were on display  in a special place. The tour ended after we had seen the main artefacts and important belongings. It was very interesting. Overall we loved the tour and thanked the tour guide and the Museum for having us and it was a brilliant tour.

The bus ride home took two hours. We were all very tired . We arrived home at 8.20pm. Everyone had lots of fun and enjoyed themselves.
